Madrid Made Easy

About

Hi, I'm Brian

I was born in Taiwan and spent most of my adult life in the US. I went to college there, built my career there, and thought I would spend the rest of my life there.

But last year, I did something that surprised even myself. I quit my job, packed up everything, and moved to Madrid with my partner to start over.

This blog was my first one ever. I'm not a professional writer. English isn't even my first language. But I felt like I had so many thoughts and experiences piling up, and I wanted a place to share them.

So here we are.

Right now I'm learning Spanish, exploring different neighborhoods, trying new food, and slowly figuring out how life works here.

Moving to a new country in your 40s is very different from studying abroad in your 20s. It's not just sightseeing. It's paperwork, grocery shopping, setting up WiFi, understanding cultural differences, and building a new routine from scratch.

But it's also walking through beautiful streets at sunset and thinking, “Wow, I actually live here.”

I started Madrid Made Easy because when I was preparing to move, I wanted real stories. Not perfect Instagram photos. Not professional “expat guru” advice. Just honest experiences from someone figuring it out in real time.

That's what this space is.

I'll share the places I enjoy, the food I keep going back to, the small mistakes I make, and the things I wish I had known earlier. Sometimes it'll be travel. Sometimes it'll be daily life stuff. Sometimes it'll just be random thoughts about adjusting to a new culture.

If you're thinking about visiting Madrid, moving to Spain, or just curious what starting over looks like, I hope you'll find something useful here.

I'm still learning. Still exploring. Still building this new chapter.

And I'm glad you're here with me.
